With the goal of safeguarding road safety during the August holidays, the Government of El Salvador has launched the “MOP Te Asiste” plan, a free towing and roadside assistance service available 24 hours a day nationwide. The measure will be implemented by the Ministerio de Obras Públicas (MOP), in coordination with the Viceministerio de Transporte (VMT), FOVIAL, and FONAT, from july 28 to august 10.

The minister of Public Works, Romeo Rodríguez Herrera, reported that this service is in addition to the government’s preventive actions during the holiday season. “Last year, we provided more than 3,000 roadside assistance services. In 2025, we will already exceed 1,000, including those during Holy Week, and now we are going for more during these August holidays”, the official said. Citizens experiencing incidents such as mechanical breakdowns, fuel shortages, or traffic accidents can request immediate assistance by calling 2510-0199. The only condition is that drivers have valid driving documents and are not under the influence of alcohol, said Deputy Minister of Transportation Nelson Reyes.

In addition to tow trucks, assistance teams will respond to emergencies related to oil spills or other debris on roads, which pose a risk, especially to motorcyclists. In these cases, FOVIAL crews will perform cleanup and corrective work to prevent further accidents.
This initiative reaffirms the government’s commitment to the well-being of the population during the holidays, offering timely, free, and high-quality road support to ensure safe vacations for all salvadorans and tourists traveling through the country.
