The Minister of Public Works of El Salvador, Romeo Herrera, officially launched the paving of the road to El Playón and the construction of a new bridge in the district of Tecoluca, municipality of San Vicente Sur. This project aims to boost the local economy and improve connectivity in the area.
The project involves an investment of approximately $14 million and covers 11.18 kilometers of road, which will significantly reduce travel times for both passengers and freight.
Cost reduction and logistics improvement
Currently, those traveling between the Coastal Highway and the Pan-American Highway must travel approximately 25 kilometers through Zacatecoluca, increasing travel times and logistics costs.
With the new road, which will function as a bypass in the area, distances and travel times will be shortened, facilitating the transport of goods and people, which represents a direct benefit to economic activity.
Boost to the productive sector
The minister emphasized that this route is key for transit in productive areas, including the sugarcane sector, a vital component of the national economy. The infrastructure improvements will allow for more efficient transport of goods, reducing operating costs and increasing competitiveness.

Furthermore, the project will benefit local commerce by facilitating access to markets and distribution centers, creating more favorable conditions for small and medium-sized producers.
Complementary works and infrastructure
The initiative is not limited to paving. It includes the construction of a two-lane bridge with sidewalks and safety measures, as well as drainage works and overpasses necessary to ensure the road’s durability.
These improvements aim to guarantee a modern and resilient infrastructure, capable of withstanding traffic flow and the area’s weather conditions.
Impact on communities
The project will directly benefit communities such as San Fernando, San José La Ceiba, Las Pampas, and El Carao, as well as schools and families who use this road daily.
Residents of the area emphasized the importance of the project, noting that for years the area faced limitations due to the road’s deterioration, which hindered mobility and economic development.

Territorial development and connectivity
The Minister of Public Works stressed that this type of project is part of a strategy to bring development to different regions of the country, not just urban areas.
He also mentioned other ongoing projects, such as the improvement of the road between San Agustín and the Coastal Highway in Usulután, reflecting a comprehensive approach to strengthening the road network.
A project with comprehensive economic impact
With the implementation of this project, it is expected not only to improve mobility but also to reduce transportation costs, encourage investment, and strengthen productive activity in the region.
The modernization of this route represents an important step in consolidating connectivity between strategic areas of the country, facilitating economic growth and improving the quality of life for the communities it serves.
