The Tribunal Supremo Electoral (TSE) reminded salvadorans that august 27, 2026, is the deadline to update the address listed on their Documento Único de Identidad (DUI). This process is important for those who have moved to a different department or municipality and wish to vote at a polling place closer to their current residence during the 2027 elections.
According to the TSE, having an updated address allows the institution to assign citizens a polling place closer to their homes. Therefore, those who have changed their address must make the update before the deadline set for updating the 2027 voter registry.
The process can be completed at DUI Centers located throughout the country or online via DUI.SV. Additionally, the institution noted that hours have been extended until 8:00 p.m., a measure designed specifically for people who, due to their work schedules, have been unable to visit during regular hours.
The update also applies to salvadorans living abroad who wish to vote in the country during the 2027 elections. In these cases, those who have a foreign address—such as Maryland, California, or another location outside the country—listed on their DUI must change it to a domestic address by august 27, 2026.
The TSE warned that making this change after the deadline could prevent these individuals from appearing on the 2027 voter rolls to vote within the country. Therefore, it recommended that salvadorans verify the address registered on their ID in advance and make any necessary changes before the deadline.
Updating one’s address aims to facilitate voting and bring polling places closer to citizens. The TSE reiterated its call to complete the process within the established deadline, emphasizing that voting will be easier if the address on the DUI is up to date.
