The salvadoran government continues to bring the services of various institutions of the Executive closer to compatriots living abroad. The Vice Minister of Diaspora and Human Mobility, Cindy Portal, announced the launching of the third phase of the driver’s license renewal service for salvadorans abroad. This saturday, this phase will be inaugurated in Guatemala, benefiting 65,000 salvadorans in Central America.
Portal informed that the first phase of this initiative was implemented in july, at the request of the community in Spain and Italy. Currently, the license renewal service is offered in eight diplomatic representations in Europe, thanks to an agreement between the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In the United States, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador has enabled this service in 10 consulates, including cities such as Houston, Dallas, Chicago and Boston. This measure seeks to facilitate procedures for salvadorans residing abroad, bringing government services closer to them.
In addition to the expansion of the licensing service, Vice Minister Portal highlighted the progress made in consular services in Canada and the United States. During the last quarter of 2024, a new consulate will be inaugurated in Manitoba, Canada, which will serve more than 5,000 salvadorans.
Next year, the 29th consulate in the United States is expected to open in Columbus, Ohio, which will benefit more than 25,000 Salvadorans. Portal emphasized that these consulates have high standards of service, with 98% user satisfaction.
