A. M. Today, El Salvador will implement a new electronic service for issuing Certificados Fitosanitarios Electrónicos (ePhyto)for agricultural exports, according to the Banco Central de Reserva (BCR) and the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG).
The system will allow certificates to be transmitted in real time through Centro de Trámites de Importaciones y Exportaciones connecting directly with the Sistema de Facilitación de Comercio Exterior (SFCE) and the sistema internacional de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO).
With this innovation, phytosanitary authorities in the United States, Mexico, and Costa Rica will be able to electronically consult information on agricultural products exported from El Salvador before their arrival. Similarly, the country will receive ePhyto certificates for imports from those same nations.
Benefits for exporters
The new mechanism seeks to streamline and modernize commercial processes, eliminating the need to print certificates and reducing processing times. In addition, the information will be transmitted directly from the MAG, ensuring that the documents comply with international standards and avoiding observations or delays in the destination countries.
According to the BCR, the system will allow exporters to manage and authorize their operations completely online, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, from anywhere in the world.
A step towards trade facilitation
El Salvador thus joins the list of countries adopting international standards in agricultural trade, promoting efficiency and transparency in the export and import of plant products.
The implementation of ePhyto reinforces the country’s commitment to the digitization of procedures and the modernization of foreign trade, strengthening its competitiveness in international markets.
