The Government of El Salvador continues to strengthen its strategy to close the digital divide by promoting the development of technological skills in children and young people through the Smart City Challenge 2025. This initiative seeks to integrate education and technology as drivers of personal and professional growth, offering students and teachers a space to innovate and create solutions with a real impact on their communities.

The Secretariat of Innovation announced that the call to participate in the challenge has been extended until august 17. Teams made up of three students and one teacher can register. They will work on innovative proposals in the education, smart city, and agriculture ecosystems, using the Minecraft Education Edition platform as a design and simulation tool.
Daniel Méndez, head of the Secretariat of Innovation, emphasized that the goal is to bring technology closer to young people, strengthen their digital skills, and promote critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork. “We expect at least 250 teams to participate, which means involving 750 students and 250 teachers”, he said.

Unlike previous editions, this year offers the private sector the opportunity to participate, fostering an exchange of ideas and experiences that enhance participants’ technological skills. Last year, more than 600 students competed, demonstrating the high level of talent in the country.
With initiatives like the Smart City Challenge, the government reaffirms its vision of building an innovative, competitive El Salvador prepared for the digital economy, where youth have access to cutting-edge tools and become key players in national development.
