Foreign trade is registering positive figures. At the Port of Acajutla, more than 3.8 million metric tons of goods have been mobilized in import and export operations through september 8, 2024. This cargo volume represents an increase of 10.8% compared to 2023, which reflects the dynamism of salvadoran foreign trade, according to the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA).
Container movement at the port has reached 178,800 TEUs, registering a growth of 8.4%. This figure indicates a greater exchange of products, ranging from raw materials to finished products, consolidating El Salvador as a key commercial hub in the region.
El Salvador’s International Airport has witnessed an impressive increase in passenger flow, which is boosting both tourism and trade in the country. To date, more than 3.7 million passengers have been handled, representing a 22% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This increase not only underscores the recovery of tourism, but also the growing international interest in the country as a transit and business destination.
Between january 1 and september 15, 2024, the airport handled more than 33 thousand passenger flight operations, an increase of 14% compared to the previous year. This flow of people favors the hotel sector, gastronomy and other tourism services, benefiting local economies. In addition, robust air connectivity remains key to attracting foreign investment.
This remarkable growth in passenger and cargo transportation reinforces the strategic importance of the country’s infrastructure, positioning it as a key hub for tourism and trade in Central America.
