Movistar El Salvador, in collaboration with the Cámara Americana de Comercio de El Salvador (AmCham) and the Fundación Empresarial para la Acción Social (FUNDEMAS), announce the closing of its successful electronics recycling tour. This initiative, which began to commemorate World Environment Day on june 5, collected more than 8,000 pounds of electronic waste.
“We believe that technology and sustainability must go hand in hand, which is why we implement practices that promote environmental protection. By expanding our electronics recycling program ‘Cambiá a Verde’ to other companies and institutions committed to the country, the positive impact will be greater and brings us closer to a greener and more prosperous future for all”, said Eduardo Solórzano, director of Corporate Affairs, Legal, Regulation and Wholesale Business of Movistar El Salvador.
The tour, which was supported by AmCham’s Sustainability Committee, raised awareness about the responsible management of electronic waste and provided a solution to the 13 participating companies: Focus El Salvador, Next Genesis Technologies, Buffete Arias, AES El Salvador, Distribuidora Los Héroes, Avon, KPMG, Laboratorios Paill, Movistar, Datum Redsoft, JM Telcom, Aseguradora ASSA company and Applaudo.
This activity reinforces Movistar El Salvador’s leadership as the only green operator in the country, extending its recycling program “Cambiá a Verde”, which annually invites its customers and other institutions to actively participate in environmental causes.
“As FUNDEMAS we believe in the best version of El Salvador and to achieve this we need everyone’s support. Therefore, it is important that companies and individuals have the responsibility to use technology correctly, as well as to separate, classify and deliver to authorized managers once they reached the end of their useful life, this will allow us to ensure proper disposal of these electronic devices, avoid pollution and at the same time generate an individual and corporate culture of protection to our environment”, said Tomas Regalado, President of FUNDEMAS.
The collection of devices, which included CPUs, UPS, cell phones, laptops, computer cables, servers, communication racks and others, was supported by Zartex, a company specializing in the integrated management of disused electronic equipment with certifications from the Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (MARN). This tour, which took place over four months in San Salvador Centro and surrounding areas, resulted in a positive environmental impact, demonstrating the importance of collaboration between companies and organizations for causes of national interest.
