The Honduran Tourism Institute (IHT) has strengthened its promotional strategy in El Salvador with the goal of attracting approximately 15,000 Salvadoran visitors during the 2026 August Festivities, one of the country’s most important holiday periods and one of the busiest tourism seasons in the region.

As part of these efforts, representatives of the Honduran Tourism Institute are conducting a media tour in El Salvador, presenting Honduras’ tourism offerings to journalists, television programs, radio stations, digital media outlets, and content creators, while inviting Salvadorans to enjoy new experiences through the campaign “Vamos a Honduras, naturalmente tuya.”

Honduras’ Minister of Tourism, Andrés Ehrler, stated that the objective is to increase the flow of Salvadoran visitors through a strategy that highlights the country’s diverse destinations, rich gastronomy, cultural heritage, and wide range of tourism experiences.

El Salvador represents one of the most important source markets for Honduras due to its geographic proximity, land connectivity, and the strong cultural and family ties between the two nations. During the August holiday season, thousands of Salvadorans travel throughout the region, making intraregional tourism one of the main drivers of economic growth in Central America.

According to studies conducted by the Honduran Tourism Institute, 95% of Salvadoran tourists who visit Honduras have traveled to the country before. For this reason, the new campaign seeks to inspire them to discover different destinations and experiences, including the Honduran Caribbean, adventure tourism, living cultures, historical heritage, and national gastronomy.

Gastronomy and Hospitality: The Main Reasons to Return
Research conducted by the Institute reveals that Honduran gastronomy is the leading reason travelers return to the country, accounting for 32.8% of preferences, followed by the hospitality of Hondurans, which reaches 25.2%.

Likewise, natural landscapes, beaches, and the diversity of experiences continue to rank among the main attractions for Salvadoran travelers.

Based on these findings, the promotional strategy is built around five key attributes: gastronomy, hospitality, adventure, the Honduran Caribbean, and living cultures, with the aim of encouraging visitors to explore the destination beyond its most traditionally known attractions.

Honduran authorities emphasized that this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s tourism competitiveness, stimulate local economies, and continue promoting intraregional tourism, a strategic segment for the sustainable development of Central America’s tourism sector.
