A. M. The National Housing System has channeled more than US$1.026 billion in loans, directly benefiting more than 115,200 families across the country. Of that total, 96% was allocated to affordable housing, valued at no more than US$60,000, according to Housing Minister Michelle Sol.
The official explained that this effort is part of the government’s commitment to guaranteeing access to decent housing. She also announced new urban development projects, such as the one to be implemented in Mejicanos, under a model like that of the cooperatives in the Historic Center, which would further expand housing opportunities.
One of the notable achievements has been the restoration of more than 11,000 homes located in areas previously considered high-risk. According to Sol, more than 9,000 of these homes have already been registered and occupied, thanks to the impact of the Territorial Control Plan and the improved security climate.
The Social Housing Fund offers historic conditions, such as interest rates as low as 2% and zero down payment for the purchase of repossessed homes worth up to US$25,000. These measures have facilitated access to credit for traditionally excluded sectors.
Sol stated that the Ministry is working on urban planning for Surf City, a key coastal area for tourism and investment. The goal is to streamline procedures and implement waterworks, which would have a positive impact on the quality of life of thousands of Salvadorans.
