The Legislative Assembly approved the addition of US$30 million to the Budget of the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA), earmarked for the construction and equipment of the arrival baggage claim area of the passenger terminal building at Aeropuerto Internacional de El Salvador “San Óscar Arnulfo Romero”.

This investment will bring significant benefits to the national economy with the income generated by tourism, facilitating connections to new destinations and improving the country’s competitiveness as a strategic air transit point.
The project will allow for the construction of a building that will include an area for seven baggage claim areas, for a total of 11 areas, space for immigration, customs registration, among other facilities. In addition, the new areas will allow for the handling of greater passenger volumes, in line with projected growth in passenger traffic, which will favor increased operations for airlines, tour operators, and logistics companies.

According to studies, the equipment will benefit more than 2.2 million arriving passengers and 6.5 million visitors, as well as Customs, Immigration, and commercial business personnel located inside and outside the terminal.
This modernization responds to the growing flow of travelers the country has experienced thanks to the tourism boom, economic stability, and advances in public safety.
