A road over 3.2 kilometers long, two road works, and the restoration of a bridge summarize the work of the Dirección de Obras Municipales in the Colorado canton, connecting with the urban center of the Comacarán district, municipality of San Miguel Centro. These initiatives have improved the connectivity of the rural and urban areas of this eastern region of the country.
The delivered project consists of the improvement of a dirt road, riddled with potholes—which in winter was characterized by mud and mud puddles that made it impassable—now leveled, compacted, and properly paved.

DOM crews created a subbase and base of select materials and soil cement, and finally laid a 7-centimeter-thick asphalt layer. Complementary works were built, such as a retaining wall, and the existing bridge over the Taisihuat River, which is 30 meters long, 6 meters wide, and 6 meters high, was restored.
Two crossings were also built with 60-inch diameter cross pipes to facilitate stormwater flow, and drinking water pipes were relocated.
Guardrails and pedestrian sidewalks were installed, and the bridge section was paved with asphalt. Drainage channels were constructed, and the flex-beam metal barriers on both sides were improved to reduce risk.
Gutters were added along both sides of the roadway to properly manage runoff.

To allow safe passage for pedestrians and drivers, the roadway has been marked horizontally and vertically with thermoplastic paint on both sides and in the center; reinforced with streetlights (roadside lighting) to better guide drivers at night. Access points were built to street entrances in hamlets and neighborhoods, as well as to homes.
Colorado Canton is a livestock, agricultural (corn and maize) and commercial area, which has been strengthened by improved roads for transporting products and encouraging local tourism. This project created more than 45 jobs, with more than 50% of them locally employed.
This project benefited more than 3,000 residents of this eastern part of the country, who now have easy and seamless access to the district’s urban center.
There is also a connection to the hamlets of Las Conchas, Las Presas, and other areas in the cantons of El Rosario and El Hormiguero. It also provides an alternate route that shortens the distance to connect with the military route at kilometer 18.

This project is part of the Plan Nacional de Bacheo, which includes more than 1.2 kilometers of asphalt and concrete surface on streets in the urban center of Comacarán and in the cantons of El Hormiguero and Candelaria.
In the department of San Miguel, the DOM is executing more than 50 projects, including the delivery of a school in the canton of El Niño de San Miguel, a recreational park in Ciudad Barrios, and roadworks in the urban and rural areas of the departmental capital and in the districts of Chinameca, Carolina, Moncagua, San Luis de La Reina, and San Antonio del Mosco, among others.
