The AES El Salvador distribution company applied arboriculture techniques to reduce the risk of power outages and ensure safety on roads and in communities in the western part of the country.
AES CLESA, the energy distribution company of AES El Salvador carried out a preventative pruning campaign in the department of Ahuachapán as part of its strategic maintenance and pruning plan. This initiative aims to ensure the continuity of electrical service and strengthen road safety in areas where vegetation poses risks to the electrical grid or vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

The intervention aims to maintain harmony between the electrical infrastructure and urban trees. The work was concentrated in the municipality of Ahuachapán Centro and the districts of Apaneca and Ataco, benefiting more than 36,000 residential customers and 50 local businesses.
Among the tasks carried out were the pruning of 19 large trees at risk of falling, the removal of vegetation near power grids, and the renovation of part of the electrical infrastructure to strengthen the power supply. The work also included the application of specialized arborist techniques, which preserve the trees and ensure their future growth does not interfere with power lines or pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

“Through prior planning and inspection of the area, we identified large trees whose fall posed a direct threat to road safety. Therefore, certified pruners removed dry or dead branches and allocated specific resources to remove the generated debris, ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the affected areas”, explained José Lito Rodríguez, Western Region manager of AES El Salvador.
Nationwide, during 2025, AES CAESS, AES CLESA, AES EEO and AES DEUSEM carried out more than 8,000 kilometers of preventive pruning, reaffirming their commitment to the safety and continuity of electrical service throughout the country.
Inter-institutional coordination in Santa Ana
As part of its preventive actions, AES CLESA, in coordination with the Mayor’s Office of Santa Ana Centro, the Municipal Civil Protection Committee, and other first-responder institutions, conducted a survey of the surrounding areas of schools and hospitals to identify trees at risk of collapse or contact with power lines.

This initiative is part of the same strategic plan and is scheduled for implementation in november 2025 in the areas prioritized by local authorities. This initiative will help reduce accidents, prevent power outages, and maintain harmony between infrastructure and urban vegetation.
