The Dirección General de Energía, Hidrocarburos y Minas (DGEHM) announced new reference prices for fuels in El Salvador, which will be in effect from january 6 to 19, 2026, and will apply to the country’s three regions: central, western, and eastern.
According to the institution, the adjustments reflect minimal variations in the international hydrocarbon market and import costs, maintaining relative price stability, especially for regular gasoline, which shows no change in any of the regions.
According to the agency, the causes of the mixed trends in gasoline prices are:
• Projections for the first quarter of 2026 indicate that global oil supply will exceed demand, driven primarily by high production levels in the United States and other countries.
• The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, along with tensions between the United States and Iran, has increased uncertainty regarding hydrocarbon supplies.
• The International Energy Agency (IEA) reported a significant increase in gasoline inventories in recent weeks, which contributed to lower international prices for these fuels.
Prices by zone and fuel type
In the central zone, the reference prices are as follows:
• Premium gasoline: $3.83 per gallon, a decrease of $0.02.
• Regular gasoline: $3.55 per gallon, no change.
• Diesel: $3.42 per gallon, an increase of $0.01.
For the western zone, the prices are:
• Premium gasoline: $3.84 per gallon, down $0.02.
• Regular gasoline: $3.56 per gallon, unchanged.
• Diesel: $3.43 per gallon, up $0.01.
Meanwhile, in the eastern region, the reference prices are:
• Premium gasoline: $3.87 per gallon, reflecting a decrease of $0.02.
• Regular gasoline: $3.59 per gallon, unchanged.
• Diesel: $3.47 per gallon, with an increase of $0.01.

Price behavior
According to the DGEHM during this period a downward trend was observed in premium gasoline, stable prices for regular gasoline, and a slight increase in diesel. This situation is mainly due to the dynamics of international demand and logistical factors associated with fuel transportation and distribution.
Authorities reiterated that these prices are for reference only, and therefore slight variations may exist depending on the service station; however, they serve as a guide for salvadoran consumers.

The Dirección de Energía, Hidrocarburos y Minas urged the public to stay informed through official channels and to use fuel responsibly, considering its impact on household budgets and daily transportation.
With this update, the State continues to provide transparent and timely information so that citizens can better plan their expenses during the first half of january 2026.
