Civil Protection authorities presented a preliminary report on emergencies handled under Summer Plan 2026, highlighting a reduction in several indicators compared to the previous year.
The director of Civil Protection in El Salvador, Luis Alonso Amaya, reported 302 traffic accidents, eight fewer than in 2025, when 310 cases were recorded during the same period.
He also emphasized that no deaths were reported on public beaches, despite at least 40 deep-water rescues, which he attributed to the increased security measures in tourist areas.
Regarding fires, the deputy director of the El Salvador Fire Department, Erick Vásquez, reported that between march 28 and 31, 159 emergencies were attended to, a significant reduction compared to the 219 recorded in 2025.
Among the most relevant data, brush fires decreased by 31%, from 167 cases in 2025 to 116 in 2026. Similarly, forest fires dropped from 19 to nine, while structural fires showed a slight variation, increasing slightly from 17 to 18 cases.
Vásquez emphasized that most of these incidents are preventable, and therefore called on the public to act responsibly to avoid risky situations.
The governor of San Salvador, Eduardo Godoy, said the deployment of approximately 100,000 personnel from various institutions throughout the country, with the goal of ensuring safety during the holiday period.
“The goal is for the public to be able to enjoy themselves with peace of mind”, the official said, reiterating that the coordinated effort aims to safeguard the lives of salvadorans.
Authorities also emphasized the importance of maintaining preventative measures, especially on beaches and highways, such as avoiding excessive alcohol consumption, not driving at high speeds, and not leaving minors unattended in high-risk areas.
