Access to drinking water in the coastal area of El Majahual is being strengthened with the commissioning of a new desalination plant, a project that involved an investment of US$513,273.54 and will directly benefit more than 140 families in the community.
The project was carried out by the Administración Nacional de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (ANDA) with financing from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), as part of efforts to improve access to basic services in vulnerable areas.
Investment with direct impact on the population
ANDA President Dagoberto Arévalo emphasized that this investment will allow families to have a nearby source of drinking water, reducing the difficulties they previously faced in obtaining this resource.
The project not only represents an improvement in infrastructure, but also an advance in the quality of life of the inhabitants, by guaranteeing water suitable for human consumption through specialized treatment processes. Technology to Guarantee Quality Water
The plant operates using a reverse osmosis system, a technology that removes salts and impurities from brackish water to make it potable. The process includes several stages, from extracting the water from wells to its pretreatment and final disinfection.
According to authorities, the water produced meets high quality standards, comparable to and even exceeding those of bottled water.

Furthermore, the plant has a production capacity of 4.0 liters per second, allowing for a constant supply to the community it serves.
Additional benefit for the education sector
The project also includes the installation of a distribution network to a school under construction in the area, ensuring that students and staff have safe access to drinking water.
This integration aims to improve not only health conditions but also the educational environment of the community.
A model for future solutions
The director of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Alejandro Zelaya, emphasized that this initiative can serve as a model for replicating similar solutions in other communities with water access needs.

The official highlighted that, in addition to benefiting families, the project represents an important step in developing sustainable alternatives to address water scarcity in coastal areas.
Improved health and well-being
With this investment, authorities seek to directly impact the health and well-being of the population by providing an essential resource under safe conditions.
The El Majahual desalination plant thus becomes a concrete solution that combines investment, technology, and a social focus, with the goal of improving the living conditions of hundreds of salvadorans.
