The Tribunal Supremo Electoral reported that as of april 2026, a total of 960,928 salvadorans residing abroad are registered to vote abroad, a figure that reflects a 29.7% increase compared to the 2024 elections.
According to the institution, this increase demonstrates greater participation of the salvadoran diaspora in the country’s democratic processes, as well as greater interest among salvadorans living abroad in exercising their right to vote from outside the country.
The registry allows salvadorans living outside the country to participate in future elections through the mechanisms enabled by the electoral body, either through remote voting via the internet or in person electronically at authorized polling centers in various countries, as established by current regulations.

The Tribunal Supremo Electoral (TSE) highlighted that the nearly 30% growth represents significant progress in the inclusion of salvadorans abroad in the electoral register, considering that thousands of citizens have emigrated in search of job opportunities, family reunification, or better living conditions, primarily to countries like the United States, where the majority of the Salvadoran community abroad resides.
The institution stated that it continues to develop efforts to ensure that Salvadorans outside the country can fully exercise their political rights, facilitating the registration and data update processes within the electoral registry.

TSE reiterated that strengthening the Overseas Electoral Registry aims to broaden citizen participation and ensure that more salvadorans can influence the country’s democratic decisions, regardless of where they live.
With these figures, the TSE underscores the sustained growth in participation by the salvadoran diaspora and the increasingly relevant role this sector plays in El Salvador’s electoral processes.
