The Dirección General de Aduanas de El Salvador, under the Ministerio de Hacienda , reported the seizure of a shipment of sports jerseys with suspected counterfeit trademarks, as part of border control measures focused on protecting intellectual property rights in international trade. The measure is being implemented under General Administrative Provision No. DGA 001-2025, which establishes border regulations to prevent the entry, export, or transit of goods with potentially counterfeit trademarks.
According to official information, the case involves imported goods bearing suspected trademarks such as ADIDAS, NIKE, PUMA, and UMBRO, applied to sports jerseys. The seized shipment consists of a single package containing a total of 63 units, originating from Hong Kong, according to customs records.
The operation falls within the inspection and verification procedures carried out by the Dirección General de Aduanas de El Salvador at points of entry into the country, with the objective of identifying goods that could infringe intellectual property rights or affect legitimate trade. In this case, the authorities proceeded with the preventive detention of the product while the corresponding administrative process is underway to determine its legal status.

According to the information provided, the notice was published on may 13, 2026, and a deadline has been established within the procedure for interested parties to appear before the competent customs authority and exercise their right to defense or present documentation supporting the legality of the goods. The deadline for appearing before the competent customs authority is may 27, 2026.
The shipment remains in custody at the Depósito Aduanero Gutiérrez Courier y Cargo, where it is being held while the case is reviewed. These warehouses function as controlled spaces intended for the temporary retention of goods subject to verification, guaranteeing their security until a final resolution is issued.
The Aduanas has indicated that these types of actions are part of its ongoing border control efforts, especially regarding the detection of products that could constitute infringements of intellectual property rights. These measures aim to prevent the entry of allegedly counterfeit goods into the local market, protecting both consumers and trademark holders.

In this context, the seizure of the sports jerseys reflects the strengthening of customs oversight mechanisms for import operations originating from various international sources, in this case Hong Kong, where the circulation of products with potential irregularities in the use of trademarks has been identified.
The process will continue under current regulations, and the competent authority will determine whether the merchandise meets the legal requirements for entry into the country or whether it is appropriate to apply the sanctions provisions regarding intellectual property and foreign trade. Meanwhile, the shipment will remain under official custody until a resolution is issued on the case.
