In an inter-institutional initiative aimed at reducing the risks faced by vulnerable populations during the winter season, Habitat El Salvador, along with its strategic partners Saltex, Sherwin Williams Holcim, Vidrí, and Solaire, launched the “Let’s Prepare for Winter” campaign. This campaign aims to help 800 salvadoran families have a safer winter by providing home improvement kits.

“Bringing together more partners and allies is part of our mission to serve families throughout the country. We officially shared our “Preparémonos para el invierno” campaign with our partners, thanking each one for their contribution to building a better future together”, said Ernesto Tobar, Executive director of Habitat El Salvador.

This campaign is a coordinated response to the qualitative housing deficit and the risks that the winter season poses to families and communities.
Focus on the Improvements

The project includes interventions in three key areas of housing, prioritized according to the conditions and needs of each beneficiary family:
• Roofs: 150 kits for repairing and improving roof coverings to prevent leaks and rain damage.

• Paint: 350 kits to protect and improve the finish of walls.
• Floors: 300 flooring kits to improve surfaces and provide greater safety and health in the home.

Each beneficiary family will receive one of these types of improvements, selected according to their specific needs within the identified qualitative deficit.
Implementation and impact

The distribution of the kits is already underway and is being carried out through a decentralized structure that allows for nationwide coverage. Habitat El Salvador will coordinate the implementation of the project in six departments of the country, ensuring close support and the provision of Construction Technical Assistance during each intervention, using a participatory model involving families, partners, and the organization. The departments where coordination work has already begun are Cuscatlán, La Libertad, San Salvador, San Vicente, Santa Ana, and Sonsonate.

This approach guarantees not only the delivery of materials but also their proper use, strengthening the resilience of homes to climate events.

Alliances that build resilience
The “Preparémonos para el invierno” campaign reflects the value of multi-sectoral alliances to address complex social challenges. The participation of companies such as Holcim, Blokitubos, Solaire, Sherwin Williams, and Vidrí demonstrates the private sector’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and the sustainable improvement of living conditions for Salvadoran families. The partners for each product line are:

• Roofing: Solaire
• Paint: Sherwin Williams

• Flooring: Holcim and Blokitubos
Campaign partner: Almacenes Vidrí

This project will be carried out with a joint investment of approximately $520,000 USD between local partners, Habitat El Salvador, and beneficiaries. Kit distribution is expected to be completed by september 2026.
