The Hospital Nacional “Dr. Juan José Fernández”, Zacamil, located in the Mejicanos district of San Salvador, received new computer equipment this Thursday as part of the Social Digital Connectivity program, an initiative that seeks to strengthen technological modernization in the country’s public health facilities.
The project is driven by the Innovation Secretariat, with support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the European Union, and is part of the efforts aimed at improving access to digital public services and strengthening the technological infrastructure of the national health system.
The delivery included tablets, laptops, battery backup power systems, and UPS equipment, tools that will optimize the use of the connectivity installed in health centers and improve the management of medical information.
During the handover ceremony, representatives of the participating institutions emphasized that digital connectivity has become a fundamental element for guaranteeing more efficient and accessible health services for the population.
The IDB representative, Ezequiel Cambiasso, explained that the program’s main objective is to expand access to broadband internet and strengthen the continuity of public services. He indicated that these advancements are enabling more institutions to have technological tools that improve the quality of care provided to citizens.

The Minister of Health, Francisco Alabi, highlighted the transformation that the salvadoran healthcare system has undergone in recent years. He recalled that previously, most processes were carried out manually, using paper records, which slowed down consultations and the management of clinical information.
Currently, he noted, the system has progressed toward the complete digitization of medical services, allowing for faster and more efficient management of patient records, as well as facilitating access to information relevant to medical care.
The Secretary of Innovation, Daniel Méndez, stated that connectivity has been a key element in promoting new technological tools within the healthcare system. He explained that advancements such as telemedicine and electronic health records depend on a robust digital infrastructure and a reliable connection in all healthcare facilities.

Likewise, the European Union Ambassador to El Salvador, Duccio Bandini, noted that technology not only improves administrative processes but also contributes to expanding opportunities and strengthening the rights of the population. He said that having better digital tools allows for more efficient information management and promotes more timely and higher-quality medical care.
Authorities reported that currently 100% of the country’s health centers have connectivity, an advancement that seeks to consolidate the digital transformation of the healthcare system and improve the care experience for thousands of salvadorans.
With the incorporation of this new technological equipment, Hospital Zacamil strengthens its operational capabilities and continues to move toward a more modern, efficient, and responsive care model adapted to the needs of the population.
