In its continuous work to guarantee safety and quality in the supply of fuels and gas, the Dirección de Energía, Hidrocarburos y Minas (DGEHM) recently carried out a series of inspections in several gas stations and propane gas points of sale. Among the most important visits was the inspection of the Texaco Juan Pablo gas station, located in downtown San Salvador.
During the inspection at Texaco Juan Pablo, DGEHM technicians conducted a thorough verification of the fuel storage tanks. This procedure included the opening of all tanks to verify the absence of water inside. In one of the diesel fuel oil storage tanks, an amount of water equivalent to 1/8 of its capacity was found. The service station was instructed to immediately remove the remaining water according to technical guidelines and a re-inspection was scheduled to ensure that the problem had been completely resolved.
In the area of propane gas safety, the DGEHM also inspected cylinders in the city of San Miguel. In Urbanización Nuevo Belén, a user reported that a recently acquired LPG cylinder was leaking, causing an outbreak of fire which, fortunately, did not result in major damage. The technical team determined that the cylinder had corrosion perforations in its base, which represented a serious risk.
Following the user’s report, the inspectors went to the point of sale to verify the condition of the remaining cylinders. The inspection revealed that Tropigas had distributed the defective cylinder, identified by the remains of the warranty seal on the cylinder valve. The DGEHM ordered the company to replace the defective cylinder immediately and remove it from the market for destruction, thus ensuring consumer safety.
These actions reflect the DGEHM’s commitment to safety and quality in the distribution of fuels and gas in the country, highlighting the importance of constant vigilance and regulation to prevent incidents and ensure the welfare of the population.
