El Salvador and Paraguay took an important step in strengthening their diplomatic relations by holding the First Meeting of the Political Consultations and Bilateral Coordination Mechanism, a forum aimed at consolidating cooperation and promoting joint initiatives for the benefit of both nations.
The meeting took place at the Paraguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was led by El Salvador’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adriana Mira, along with her paraguayan counterpart, Víctor Verdún.
Boosting economic and trade cooperation
During the meeting, both delegations addressed key political, economic, and cooperation issues. In the economic sphere, they agreed on the need to identify mechanisms to strengthen competitiveness, boost growth, and facilitate access to new markets.
As part of these efforts, they expressed their interest in moving toward agreements in strategic areas such as air transport, with the goal of improving connectivity between the two countries and revitalizing trade and tourism.
Exchange on Multilateral and Social Issues: In addition to the economic component, officials discussed multilateral issues and shared experiences related to human mobility and consular services.
They also highlighted progress in cooperation projects in sectors such as health, security, education, agriculture, institutional strengthening, and culture—areas considered priorities for the development of both nations.

New commitments for the coming years:
Within the framework of this bilateral agenda, both countries announced the holding of the Second Meeting of the Joint Cooperation Commission, at which a joint work plan for the next two years will be formalized.
Furthermore, an academic agreement was signed between the foreign ministries, which will allow for collaboration between their diplomatic training institutes, contributing to the strengthening of institutional capacities.
A key step in the bilateral relationship
The authorities agreed on the importance of holding these types of high-level meetings regularly, to ensure the continuity of the agreements reached and expand cooperation ties.
Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Adriana Mira emphasized that this first meeting represents a significant step forward, allowing for direct and constructive dialogue based on shared interests.
With this rapprochement, El Salvador and Paraguay seek to consolidate a stronger relationship, focused on concrete results that contribute to the economic and social development of both countries.
