
With the participation of the country’s 45 higher education institutions, representatives from the private sector, international organizations, and experts from Argentina and Mexico, the Ministry of Education, through the Dirección Nacional de Educación Superior, inaugurated the II International Congress on the National Educational Model: Higher Education 2026, a forum to analyze the main challenges and opportunities in higher education.
During the event, topics such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence, dual education, quality accreditation, and curriculum modernization are being addressed, with the goal of strengthening university education and adapting it to the new demands of the labor market.
The National Director of Higher Education, Christian Aparicio, explained that the congress is the result of several years of work to build an educational model that responds to the country’s needs and allows for a rethinking of the role of academia in the face of technological and social changes.

The Minister of Education, Karla Trigueros, emphasized that the event strengthens international academic cooperation and the exchange of experiences to consolidate a more innovative and competitive higher education system.
The official noted that artificial intelligence, automation, and digital transformation require universities to train professionals with critical thinking skills, leadership, creativity, and the ability to respond to a constantly evolving environment.
The two-day congress is being held in a hybrid format and brings together authorities, professors, researchers, and students to share knowledge and proposals that will promote the modernization of higher education in El Salvador.
