The Ministry of National Defense reported that El Salvador successfully concluded the multinational exercise CENTAM GUARDIAN 2026, consolidating its role as a key host for strengthening regional security cooperation.
The closing ceremony was led by Minister of Defense René Francis Merino Monroy, alongside the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in El Salvador, Naomi Fellows. Both highlighted the importance of such exercises in enhancing joint capabilities among allied nations.

During the exercise, the Armed Forces of El Salvador worked in coordination with military forces from the United States, Guatemala, Honduras, and Belize. These activities helped improve preparedness and response to transnational threats, as well as the management of emergencies that may affect the civilian population.

CENTAM GUARDIAN 2026 included training focused on joint operations, knowledge exchange, and the strengthening of response protocols for various risk scenarios. This type of cooperation aims to ensure a more effective and coordinated response to shared challenges in the region.

Authorities emphasized that hosting this exercise in Salvadoran territory reaffirms the country’s role as a reliable and committed partner in regional security. They also underscored that these initiatives contribute to strengthening the operational capacity of institutions responsible for national defense and public protection.

With the conclusion of this exercise, El Salvador reinforces its international presence in security matters, consolidating strategic alliances and advancing joint preparedness to address threats that transcend national borders.
