El Salvador continues to consolidate its position as a reference in tourism. As part of the strategies to provide quality service to travelers and diaspora, government authorities inaugurated today the expansion of the check-in area at the Aeropuerto Internacional “San Óscar Arnulfo Romero”.

The new construction consists of 5,255 square meters, where passengers will now be able to find 122 service points, which will allow to serve 480 additional passengers, for a total capacity of 1,464 passengers per hour.
It also has lobby areas, technical rooms, electrical substation, restrooms, public sidewalk, access booth and baggage train maneuvering area.

“This modernization and expansion allow us to further strengthen our commercial projection with the world, enhance our competitiveness in the aeronautical sector by attracting new airlines, opening new routes and generating more connection opportunities with the world”, informed Federico Anliker, president of the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA).

The check-in area is equipped with all the necessary systems for its operation and will have kiosks for passenger pre-check-in, double baggage conveyor belt system, which together with two RX equipment for checked baggage inspection, will have a capacity to move up to 1,440 bags per hour.

The authorities informed that an investment of more than US$11 million has been made for the expansion, adapting the facilities under a vision of modernity and comfort for collaborators and users.

The activity also included the launching of the Vacation Plan 2025, which will be in effect from april 11 to 22. CEPA projects to serve more than 233 thousand people, with a daily average of 15,591 passengers, which would represent an increase of 3% in relation to 2024.

The head of CEPA explained that there will be more than 1,200 employees in operating and administrative hours that will serve all passengers at the airport 24 hours a day. In addition, he added that 400 elements of Migration, Tourism, PNC, Customs, ANSP, Ministry of Health and VMT will be added.
