The Finance and Special Budget Committee of the Legislative Assembly issued a favorable opinion to incorporate US$208,445 into the budget of the Ministerio de Desarrollo Local (MINDEL). These funds will be used to improve the infrastructure of the División de Asistencia Alimentaria (DAA), warehouse, located in San Miguel.
Of the total amount requested, US$153,538.14 will be used for the construction of a new administrative area and a product analysis laboratory. These projects aim to strengthen the operational conditions of a key facility for the storage and control of food and supplies destined for social programs and emergency response.
During the review of the initiative, the Deputy Director General of Investment and Public Credit at the Ministry of Finance, Delia Reyes, explained that the current facilities have structural damage that poses a risk to personnel and hinders the performance of administrative and technical tasks.
According to the official, the Food Assistance Division’s warehouse stores food and other supplies that are later distributed to schools and vulnerable populations during emergencies. Therefore, having adequate facilities is essential to ensure the proper management and control of these resources.
In addition to the construction of the administrative area and the laboratory, the budget increase includes US$44,418 for exterior work, including the construction of access corridors to offices and restrooms.
Furthermore, US$1,093 will be allocated for the demolition and dismantling of infrastructure that is no longer usable, while US$9,395 will be invested in the construction of infiltration trenches and septic tanks to improve the building’s condition.
The allocation of these funds still requires approval from the full legislature. If approved, MINDEL will be able to carry out the infrastructure works aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of the División de Asistencia Alimentaria (DAA), and improving the delivery of programs targeting schools and vulnerable populations.
