The President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, highlighted in his X account the remarkable growth of tourism in the country, supported by improvements in security. According to the latest UN Tourism Barometer, El Salvador registered an 81% increase in international arrivals in 2024, consolidating itself as the second best performing destination globally.
In his message, Bukele highlighted that these results reflect the positive impact of the policies implemented in recent years. In addition, the report notes that world tourism has recovered 99% of its pre-pandemic levels, with Qatar (+137%) and Albania (+80%) accompanying El Salvador in the top positions.
The President has emphasized that stability and security have been key to this boom in the tourism industry. According to official data, the country has received a greater influx of visitors interested in its beaches, archeological sites and cultural wealth.
Other destinations in the Americas that have also shown a positive performance are Guatemala (+33%), Dominican Republic (+32%) and Colombia (+37%). This regional growth reflects a sustained recovery of tourism in Latin America, driven by the promotion of its attractions and improvements in infrastructure.
The increase in tourism not only strengthens El Salvador’s international image, but also boosts the local economy. Authorities and entrepreneurs in the sector expect this trend to continue in 2025, with new investments and promotional strategies.
