The Legislative Assembly approved, with 56 votes, a US$17.18 million loan agreement between the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA) and Instituto de Crédito Oficial (ICO) of Spain. The funds will allow progress on the construction of the Pacific International Airport, located in the eastern part of the country.
The financing will be specifically allocated to the project for the supply and installation of the wraparound dome of the Beta Passenger Terminal, which includes a 21-meter-high structure. This project is part of the airport modernization plan promoted by the Government, whose objective is to expand operational capacity and improve the passenger experience.
The investment covers the manufacturing, supply, assembly, and supervision of the dome, which is integrated into the new terminal as a key functional and architectural element. Furthermore, the project includes complementary works such as the construction of the main terminal building, auxiliary buildings, a runway, taxiways, aprons, and the expansion of parking and baggage areas.
According to official projections, the construction phase will generate more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs, contributing to the economic growth of the eastern region.
Once operational, the Pacific Airport will handle approximately 2,000 flights per year and serve around 300,000 passengers, with estimated annual revenues that could exceed $300 million.
The project is part of the country’s strategy to strengthen its aeronautical infrastructure, with the goal of positioning El Salvador as a competitive logistics and tourism hub in the region.
