Holcim El Salvador celebrates 75 years of operations, consolidating its position as a pioneer in the country’s construction sector and reaffirming its commitment to sustainability. Throughout these decades, the company has implemented innovative solutions that contribute to economic and social development, focusing on decarbonization and carbon footprint reduction in the construction industry.
The company, founded in El Salvador in 1949 and whose purpose is “Building progress for people and the planet”, promotes the circular economy through its innovative waste co-processing process, a cutting-edge technology that enables the recovery of materials and the generation of energy from waste. This process, executed by its environmental arm Geocycle, not only minimizes the amount of waste going to landfills, but also reduces the demand for natural resources, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of cement and concrete production.
Throughout its 75 years, Holcim has developed a range of construction solutions that meet the highest sustainability standards, making it the only company in the country to have obtained Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for its cement and concrete portfolio. These international certifications guarantee that each product has a measured and managed environmental impact throughout its life cycle, offering responsible solutions with a lower carbon footprint to the construction market.
“At Holcim El Salvador we are deeply committed to promoting a sector that not only builds, but also protects the environment in which we live, adopting innovative and sustainable solutions that respond to the needs of the present and the future”, said Marcelo Arrieta, CEO of Holcim El Salvador.
Holcim El Salvador is dedicated to continuing to lead the industry towards a greener and more sustainable future, so in addition to its focus on the circular economy, the company is implementing digital solutions to optimize its processes and improve efficiency in production and resource consumption.
Impact on the community: Building progress for everyone
Holcim accompanies the development of the communities where it operates. In 2023, more than 9,500 people benefited from its corporate social responsibility programs, focusing on housing and infrastructure, education and employment, health and the environment, contributing to the country’s comprehensive progress.
“Our commitment to sustainable development goes beyond our operations. At Holcim we have focused on addressing the priority needs of the communities where we operate, promoting improvements in their quality of life and multiplying their development opportunities. Over the years we have established strategic alliances with local governments that allow us to introduce communities to sustainable business models”, explained Arrieta.
