FUNDEMAS Sustainability Week concluded successfully, reaffirming El Salvador’s environmental commitment. This event, organized by the Fundación Empresarial para la Acción Social (FUNDEMAS), took place over three days and had the collaboration of Dinero.com.sv as an ally in the promotion of sustainability in the country.
During this period, several companies committed to environmental, social and economic wellbeing presented their projects, which include initiatives such as tree planting, proper waste management, use of renewable energies, protection of water sources and financing of socio-environmental projects.
Each of the activities carried out sought to generate a positive impact on the salvadoran environment, highlighting the key role of companies and institutions in building a sustainable future. The projects presented during the week highlighted the importance of a comprehensive vision that encompasses not only environmental well-being, but also social and economic development.
At the closing of the event, Fernando López, Minister of the Environment, thanked the participating institutions for their commitment and work, stressing the importance of continuing with these projects that promote sustainable development. The minister reiterated the need for El Salvador to continue advancing in environmental initiatives that ensure a cleaner and more resilient future for the next generations.
One of the key points of the event was the sectoral dialogue, in which various prominent figures from the country participated, such as the president of the Asociación Salvadoreña de Industriales (ASI), Jorge Arriaza, and the president of FUNDEMAS, Tomás Regalado. This dialogue provided an opportunity to reflect on the challenges facing El Salvador due to the effects of climate change and the opportunities that exist to mitigate its impact through joint actions.
An example of these actions was highlighted by Mario Salaverria, president of the Asociación Azucarera, who emphasized the record green harvest of sugarcane achieved this year. A 50% green harvest was achieved, which avoids the burning of sugarcane crops, thus reducing pollution and the negative effects that fire generates in the environment. Thanks to this type of practices and having achieved 50% green harvesting before the end of the season, the impact has been favorable, as noted at the event.
During the dialogue, the country’s vulnerability to climate phenomena and the urgency of implementing preventive and corrective measures were highlighted. Business and government leaders agreed that it is crucial to strengthen environmental actions to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change.
FUNDEMAS Sustainability Week has not only served as a platform to showcase successful projects, but also as a space to strengthen alliances between the public and private sectors, all focused on protecting the salvadoran environment and ensuring a sustainable future.
