Artificial intelligence could significantly transform international trade over the coming decades. According to projections cited by the Corporación de Exportadores de El Salvador (COEXPORT), —based on the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) World Trade Report 2025—this technology could increase global trade by between 34% and 37% by 2040, while global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) could rise by 12% to 13%.
These projections reflect the potential of artificial intelligence to alter how companies produce goods, make decisions, and compete in international markets. For the export sector, the strategic adoption of these tools can serve to improve processes and enable a faster response to buyer demands.
The advancement of AI is also evident in how companies are already utilizing the technology. According to Stanford University’s AI Index 2026, 88% of surveyed organizations used artificial intelligence in at least one function during 2025, up from 78% in 2024.
Against this backdrop, COEXPORT is organizing a specialized forum to analyze how digital transformation and artificial intelligence can become tools for competitiveness for salvadoran companies participating in international markets.
COEXPORT President Silvia Cuéllar noted that the challenge for companies is no longer merely deciding whether to use technology but doing so strategically and in alignment with actual business needs. The event aims to help business leaders identify where to start and determine which technology decisions can generate value.
The forum addresses six areas related to business transformation: automation and artificial intelligence; regulation and digital transformation; export excellence; AI-driven commercial strategy; strategic thinking for global market competition; and business management and Industry 4.0.
The event also features the participation of specialists. Among them is Lídice González, Executive Director of the Agencia Nacional de Inteligencia Artificial (ANIA), who will speak on the country’s regulatory direction regarding AI. Experts in digital transformation and enterprise technology from the firm ESTTRATO are also participating.
In addition to the presentation component, the event includes a practical session where the 150 attendees work on making technology-related decisions and applying them in areas such as productivity, logistics, traceability, customer service, and market intelligence.
For COEXPORT, strengthening these capabilities is crucial because export companies compete in markets where the speed of processing information and making decisions can play an increasingly important role. The organization maintains that the strategic adoption of technology should focus on improving productivity, boosting competitiveness, and generating value for companies in international markets.
