The Ministerio de Turismo (MITUR), Morena Valdez, reported that El Salvador received 2.5 million international visitors through June 2026, a record figure for the country that represents more than half of the projected goal of 4.2 million tourists for this year.
During a television interview, the official explained that tourism growth continues to strengthen with the arrival of visitors primarily from Guatemala, Honduras, the United States, and Canada, markets that remain among the top sources of tourists to El Salvador.
Valdez emphasized that the objective of the tourism strategy is not only to increase the number of visitors but also to ensure that this activity generates economic benefits in the communities where tourist destinations are located.
“We are receiving many visitors from Guatemala, Honduras, the United States, and Canada”, said the Minister of Tourism, adding that they are working in coordination with various institutions and strategic partners to promote public tourism infrastructure projects that will enhance the visitor experience and strengthen the local economy.
The Minister also called on the business sector to continue working together to ensure sustainable tourism growth, offering quality services that encourage visitors to recommend the country and return.
She further highlighted the economic impact of this industry, noting that in 2025 tourism contributed over US$3.6 billion in foreign exchange earnings and generated more than 300,000 direct and indirect jobs—benefits they aim to extend to other sectors and communities connected to tourist destinations.
With these results, El Salvador maintains a positive trend in the development of its tourism sector, driven by the country’s international promotion, the improvement of destinations, and the creation of new economic opportunities within the industry.
