El Salvador continues to expand the presence of its products in international markets. As part of this strategy, the Embassy of El Salvador in Japan recently organized a Ron Cihuatán tasting with the aim of strengthening its position in that Asian country and generating new export opportunities for the national industry.
The event was held with the support of the importing company Kimura Co. and brought together businesspeople from the beverage and distribution sector, who had the opportunity to learn about the different varieties and presentations of this rum produced in El Salvador.
During the event, attendees were able to taste the product and learn more about the characteristics that distinguish Ron Cihuatán in the international market. Among these characteristics is its tropical aging process, a feature that, according to salvadoran authorities, imparts particular notes and flavors derived from the country’s climatic conditions.

The salvadoran ambassador to Japan, Diego Dalton, explained to the participants the origins of the brand, as well as the production processes involved in crafting this beverage. He also highlighted that El Salvador’s heat contributes to accelerating the aging process, giving the product a distinct profile compared to other rums on the market.
The tasting took place at the salvadoran diplomatic mission and is part of the country’s efforts to diversify its export offerings in Japan. Currently, Japan has established itself as the main buyer of salvadoran coffee in Asia, but it also represents an opportunity to expand the presence of other value-added products, such as alcoholic beverages, specialty foods, and agricultural products.

The trade promotion efforts undertaken by the Embassy are already showing concrete results. In april of this year, the first shipment of Ron Cihuatán to Japan was officially launched, marking an important step for the brand’s international expansion and the diversification of salvadoran exports.
With initiatives like this, El Salvador seeks to strengthen its presence in high-value markets, forge new trade links, and open doors for more national products to reach international consumers, contributing to export growth and the positioning of salvadoran industry abroad.
