
The Índice de Precios al Consumidor (IPC) registered a monthly increase of 0.55% in june 2016, rising from 133.74 points in may to 134.48 points in june, according to data from the Banco Central de Reserva (BCR). The result reflects a moderate increase in the cost of living during the month, driven mainly by the higher cost of housing-related services.
The category that showed the largest increase between may and june was Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels, whose index rose from 149.96 to 151.42 points, equivalent to an increase of 0.97%, becoming the main factor influencing the IPC´S performance during the period.

Recreation and Culture followed, registering the largest percentage increase among the divisions, rising from 95.49 to 97.67 points, representing a 2.28% change. Restaurants and Hotels also showed increases, rising 0.80% from 167.93 to 169.28 points, as did Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, which increased 0.66% from 159.63 to 160.68 points.
Likewise, Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco rose 0.34% from 178.33 to 178.94 points; Furniture, Household Goods, and Routine Household Maintenance increased 0.21% from 111.81 to 112.05 points; and Miscellaneous Goods and Services advanced 0.07% from 131.29 to 131.38 points. Clothing and footwear saw a slight increase of 0.06%, rising from 99.76 to 99.82 points; Health grew by 0.04%, from 117.45 to 117.50 points; and Communications showed a minimal variation of 0.01%, increasing from 79.66 to 79.67 points.
Conversely, Transportation was the only sector to register a decrease during the month, falling from 118.48 points in may to 118.37 in june, equivalent to a variation of -0.09%.

Meanwhile, Education remained unchanged during the analyzed period, maintaining an index of 117.07 points in both May and June, reflecting a variation of 0.00%.
Comparison with june 2025
Year-on-year, the CPI rose from 130.86 points in june 2025 to 134.48 points in june 2026, representing an increase of 2.77%, confirming that the general price level remains higher than that observed a year earlier.

Within this year-on-year comparison, the largest increases were observed in Transportation, whose index rose from 111.90 to 118.37 points; Restaurants and Hotels, from 161.67 to 169.28 points; and Recreation and Culture, which increased from 93.98 to 97.67 points, reflecting the greatest changes in price behavior over the past twelve months.
According to data from the BCR, the IPC´S performance in june was primarily driven by increased housing and basic services costs, along with rises in food, recreation, and restaurant expenses. Education costs remained stable, and transportation was the only category to register a monthly decrease.
