The Executive Director of the Oficina de Planificación del Área Metropolitana de San Salvador (OPAMSS), Luis Rodríguez, highlighted that the sustained growth of the construction sector has driven the creation of 1,696 companies linked to this industry, while the institution currently manages 684 projects in the Área Metropolitana de San Salvador (AMSS). He explained that these figures reflect the dynamism of the sector and its contribution to job creation and the country’s economic activity.
During a radio interview, Rodríguez stated that the institution’s objective is to guarantee the efficient execution of ongoing projects to maintain the momentum of construction and generate a positive effect on other economic activities. “The total portfolio consists of 684 projects in the San Salvador Metropolitan Area. The goal is to achieve efficient execution and thereby propel the sector forward, generating more jobs and stimulating other sectors where opportunities exist”, he affirmed.
The official indicated that this performance reflects the sustained growth the industry has experienced since 2024. He recalled that the so-called construction boom began in september of that year, after approximately US$1.1 billion was released, allowing the sector to grow by nearly 30% between september 2024 and september 2025 compared to the previous period—a performance he described as unprecedented in the country’s history.

He also affirmed that the sector continues to show positive results in 2026, registering growth exceeding 13% compared to the boom experienced in previous years. He added that El Salvador maintains sustained growth of around 18%, a performance that, he said, is also unprecedented in the region and demonstrates the stability achieved by the industry.
Rodríguez also emphasized that security has been a determining factor in this development, facilitating the mobility of people, the expansion of commerce, and urban growth. In that context, he noted that the construction growth rate is between 14% and 16%, while loans to the sector increased by 130% compared to the previous year, rising from US$179 million to US$413 million.

Regarding institutional modernization, he explained that OPAMSS has focused its efforts on three strategic pillars: streamlining procedures, incorporating technology to strengthen territorial intelligence, and promoting new urban planning tools. As a result, he asserted that the institution’s process efficiency has improved by 80%, facilitating project development.
Finally, the executive director announced that the institution is working on launching the first pilot project for super-districts, an initiative that will be developed in conjunction with the private sector and seeks to organize areas with high development potential, combining private and public investment to drive urban transformation and strengthen the sustainable growth of the San Salvador Metropolitan Area.
