The Producer Price Index (PPI) for the manufacturing sector registered a 0.24% increase in february 2026 compared to January of the same year, rising from 141.31 to 141.65 points, according to the most recent data from the Banco Central de Reserva. This increase reflects higher prices received by producers in the manufacturing sector, associated with variations in production costs and services related to economic activity.
The PPI measures price changes from the producers’ perspective, so its behavior allows for the identification of pressures in the cost structure within the economy. In the case of the manufacturing sector, the increase registered during February suggests that the goods produced by the industry were sold at slightly higher prices than in the previous month.
At the overall economic level, the total Producer Price Index also showed an increase, although more moderate. The overall Producer Price Index (PPI) increased by 0.09% between january and february 2026, rising from 136.52 to 136.64 points, indicating a slight increase in the average prices received by producers across all economic activities.
The index’s performance was influenced by the growth of several sectors that registered increases during the period. Among these, transportation and storage stood out, growing by 0.22%, from 116.96 to 117.22 points. An increase was also observed in other service activities, which rose by 0.18%, from 120.25 to 120.47 points.

Similarly, human health and social assistance activities increased by 0.14%, rising from 125.28 to 125.46 points, while accommodation and food service activities saw a 0.11% increase, climbing from 157.50 to 157.67 points.
Other sectors experienced smaller increases. These included professional, scientific, and technical activities, with a 0.04% increase; arts, entertainment, and recreation activities, with a 0.02% increase; and information and telecommunications, which registered a marginal change of 0.01%.
Some sectors remained unchanged between January and february, which helped to moderate the overall growth of the index. This was the case for water supply, sewerage and waste management, real estate activities, and education, whose indices remained at the same level as the previous month.

In contrast, some activities showed reductions in their producer prices. The most significant case was the supply of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning, which registered a drop of 0.81%, falling from 130.30 to 129.25 points. A decrease was also observed in administrative and support service activities, with a negative variation of 0.35%, falling from 133.35 to 132.88 points.
Overall, the data reflect that during february 2026, producer prices registered a moderate increase, with the manufacturing sector showing more pronounced growth than the overall average. This behavior reflects the evolution of prices in various services and economic activities that are part of the production chain.
