Holcim, a global leader in innovative and sustainable solutions for construction, has positioned itself as the most transparent company in the Latin American construction sector with Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for its cement and concrete portfolio, including its ECOPlanet sustainable cements and ECOPact concretes, which offer at least a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions.
Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) provide comprehensive, third-party verified data on the environmental impact of products during their life cycle, helping to reduce the carbon footprint of construction projects and facilitating the achievement of higher scores in sustainable building certifications such as LEED or EDGE. By promoting transparency and standardization in the industry, EPDs provide reviewed and certified information, allowing for comparison of products under the same standard and incorporating sustainability as a key selection criterion.
This commitment to transparency enables professionals in the construction sector, from architects to real estate developers, to have full visibility of the composition and environmental performance of Holcim’s sustainable solutions; moreover, having this information enables the company to continue improving its production processes to develop increasingly efficient and sustainable solutions.
Holcim’s operations in Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico and Nicaragua are committed to transparency by verifying their cement and concrete with third parties. They currently have EPDs for 70 types of cement and more than 5,000 concrete designs. In the case of Holcim El Salvador, the EPDs are available for consultation on the Labeling Sustainability platform.
Catalina Mora, Head of Sustainability at Holcim Latin America, commented: “In an era where sustainable construction is becoming more relevant, offering our customers products and solutions with Environmental Product Declarations positions us as a transparent and reliable partner. Our long-standing track record has proven the quality of our products, and we now strengthen our commitment by meeting sustainable goals”.
Holcim is on a mission to decarbonize construction throughout its entire life cycle to build a net-zero future that works for people and the planet. By engaging EDPs, Holcim seeks to drive sustainability and transparency in the construction industry.
