The Mayor’s Office of San Salvador has recently approved a waiver of delinquent interest to facilitate compliance with municipal taxes. This measure responds to the concern of Mayor Mario Durán, who has pointed out that around 50% of the population of downtown San Salvador is not up to date with their tax obligations.
The waiver is applicable to special taxes and contributions associated with real estate property in the districts of Mejicanos, San Salvador, Ayutuxtepeque, Ciudad Delgado and Cuscatancingo.
Taxpayers may take advantage of this opportunity to regularize their situation by paying in cash, check or bank transfer. The measure seeks to alleviate the financial burden of citizens and encourage compliance with tax obligations.
However, it is important to highlight that this temporary dispensation does not extend to accumulated debts and fines, advertising items, extemporaneous registrations or taxes related to commercial activities. These concepts will continue to generate interest on arrears according to current regulations.
The mayor’s office hopes that this initiative will encourage citizens to settle their debts with the municipality and, in this way, improve tax collection to finance essential public projects and services in the capital city.
