Spaying or neutering is a key step for cats’ well-being, as it helps prevent unwanted litter, contributes to feline population control, and promotes more responsible coexistence with cats. However, it also marks the beginning of a new stage with different nutritional needs. After spaying or neutering, cats may experience metabolic changes that increase their tendency to gain weight, so an appropriate diet with a higher protein content plays a vital role in supporting them during this new phase.
As part of its commitment to responsible pet ownership and animal welfare, Purina Cat Chow, in partnership with animal welfare organizations, continues to promote feline spay and neuter initiatives in Central America. In 2025, these efforts facilitated the spaying and neutering of more than 11,400 cats, contributing to responsible feline population control and the well-being of thousands of pets and their families.
This initiative addresses a growing trend: currently, more than 60% of cats living in households in Central America are neutered, reflecting pet owners’ commitment to their pets’ well-being. However, many are still unaware of the specific care requirements that this new stage entails, especially when it comes to nutrition.
With more than 60 years of experience in feline nutrition, Purina Cat Chow supports pet owners at every stage of their cats’ lives, promoting comprehensive care that contributes to their well-being and quality of life.

This vision is brought to life through partnerships with animal welfare organizations, supporting spay-and-neuter campaigns and promoting education on the care cats require after this procedure.
In El Salvador, the partnership with the Cat Home veterinary clinic enabled the spaying and neutering of more than 3,200 cats in 2025. So far in 2026, the initiative has facilitated the spaying and neutering of more than 1,200 cats, while also educating owners on post-spay/neuter care and specialized nutrition.
