Fundación Poma and Teatro Luis Poma presented the book “Teatro Luis Poma, 20 años en la escena salvadoreña”, a publication that measures the impact of the first private theater in El Salvador in the cultural field, as well as its effect on the artistic guild.
Written by researcher and theater critic David Rocha, the book is a detailed chronicle that includes history, data and the voices of actors, actresses, playwrights, directors, critics and journalists, with the aim of contributing to the construction of the salvadoran theatrical memory.
With the vision of Ricardo Poma and under the leadership of Roberto Salomón, the Luis Poma Theater is a reference for the development of the performing arts in the country, and to date maintains two objectives: to contribute to the professionalization of artists and to bring theater closer to Salvadorans in a suitable environment and with an uninterrupted billboard.
“We aspire that this publication feeds the artistic memory of our country, contributes to the transfer of knowledge and experiences and inspires new generations”, said Ricardo Poma, president of Fundación Poma. He also reiterated the commitment to continue promoting convergence, dialogue and reflection at the Teatro Luis Poma, because, according to the businessman, they are convinced of the potential of art and culture to promote the welfare of society.
The event had a strong emotional charge thanks to the intervention of two young actors who gave voice to some of the phrases of artists who have been part of this story.
Alejandro Poma, Vice President of Fundación Poma; Roberto Salomón, Artistic Director of Teatro Luis Poma; and David Rocha, researcher and theater critic, participated in a discussion in which they highlighted details of the process of writing the book, the collection and selection of information, the historical contribution of this cultural project, without forgetting stages such as the pandemic that marked a new rhythm in the way of living the theater.
Some of the data collected in this book and projected during the celebration show the mark that Poma has left in the history of art in the country. More than 200 plays have been presented on these stages to more than 280 thousand spectators, 120 groups of artists have found the ideal place to mount their stage projects. Also mentioned are the “Biennial of Playwriting” and “Ovation Award” contests, direct incentives to artistic production.
“Teatro Luis Poma, 20 years on the salvadoran stage” arises from the need to capture history, to look back and recognize the road traveled to continue building for the future. In addition, it should be noted that the launching of this book is framed in an important moment for Fundación Poma, which celebrates 40 years of work in three important areas for the social development of the country: education, health and culture.
