For the third consecutive year, the Embassy of El Salvador in the United States has facilitated the arrival of a group of American doctors from Annandale Ob/Gyn, to provide free care in the specialties of gynecology and obstetrics. From august 19 to 22, the contingent, composed of surgeons, anesthesiologists and interpreters, performed 25 surgical procedures at the “Dr. José Antonio Saldaña” hospital.
.
Ambassador Milena Mayorga highlighted the relevance of having these high caliber professionals, who come from renowned institutions such as Inova Hospital in Virginia and Johns Hopkins University. “They are eminent and it is a great achievement to be able to bring them to El Salvador”, Mayorga emphasized, highlighting the positive impact of this cooperation on the salvadoran health system
In addition to the surgeries, the U.S. physicians participated in a forum in which they shared advanced techniques in gynecological surgeries with health professionals from both public and private institutions in El Salvador. This exchange of knowledge seeks to strengthen local capabilities and improve care in the country.
The ambassador also underscored the positive impression that the foreign doctors took away with them about the hospital facilities and the enthusiasm of the salvadoran doctors to learn. According to Mayorga, this type of initiative is key to the transformation of the country’s public hospital network, which seeks to offer quality service with adequate equipment and personnel.
Finally, Mayorga said that the North American doctors have already confirmed their return for next year, and that other specialists have shown interest in joining these activities, which promises to continue strengthening cooperation in health between the two countries.
