Holcim, a global leader in innovative and sustainable building solutions, announced the acquisition of 100% of Cemex’s operations in Guatemala, consolidating its presence in the country and the Central American region, where it already has a representative presence in El Salvador, Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
The Guatemalan operation includes a cement grinding plant strategically located ~5 km from Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala’s largest seaport, two fixed ready-mix concrete plants, a mobile ready-mix concrete plant, a marine terminal and five land distribution centers, with a team of more than 150 employees. Holcim entered the Guatemalan market in 2023 with the majority acquisition of “Minerales y Agregados” which specializes in mortars and adhesives.
“This acquisition expands our sustainable solutions offering in Guatemala, building on the success enjoyed in other markets in Latin America and globally”, said Oliver Osswald, Regional Director of Holcim Latin America.
As part of the acquisition and expansion, Holcim announced the appointment of Manuel Sirtori as CEO of Holcim Guatemala. A civil engineer with more than 31 years of experience within the Holcim Group, Sirtori has led strategic areas such as operations, logistics and distribution in key markets such as Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador and Argentina. He currently chairs the Federación Iberoamericana del Hormigón Premezclado (FIHP).
“We are excited to be part of Guatemala’s growth and to contribute to the country’s development with our innovative and sustainable solutions”, said Manuel Sirtori, new CEO of Holcim Guatemala. “We welcome our Guatemalan collaborators, with whom we will work to create synergies and benefits for our employees and communities as well as for our customers in the region”.
