The Área Metropolitana de San Salvador (AMSS) ended 2024 with a historic investment of US$2,102 million, as confirmed by Luis Rodríguez, executive director of the Consejo de Alcaldes y Oficina de Planificación del Área Metropolitana de San Salvador (COAMSS OPAMSS). During an interview this wednesday, Rodríguez highlighted that the increase in investment has been boosted by the strengthening of the security climate in the country, which has generated confidence in national and foreign investors.
He also pointed out that for the first half of 2025 they expect to exceed this figure, with new projects that will consolidate growth in key sectors such as commerce, logistics and construction.
Among the sectors that grew the most during 2024, the executive director highlighted the hotel sector, which opened the year with an increase of 24%, while the logistics sector registered a growth of 13.8% and the commerce sector reached 7.3%. The housing sector showed a significant increase, starting the year with a 51.3% increase. Rodriguez added that the construction industry ecosystem has experienced unprecedented dynamism.
“In just two weeks last year we managed to consolidate between five and six project inaugurations, which represented an investment of US$150 million. The most significant thing is that these works are being developed in areas that were hard hit by the violence and are now recovering”, said Rodríguez.
Among the new projects to be developed by 2025 are partial plans in certain areas of the AMSS that will exceed US$500 million in investment. These projects will focus on the concept of “15-minute cities”, which will guarantee quick access to essential services such as health, education, commerce and agri-markets.
Likewise, Rodriguez highlighted the increase in procedures approved by the COAMSS OPAMSS, which closed the month of december 2024 with an increase of 187%. “This is a number that continues to grow every day, and reflects the interest of investors in continuing to bet on the development of the metropolitan area”, he concluded.
