The survey also shows that most of these attacks were massive, of the ransomware or data hijacking type. In addition, cyber-attacks represent a significant threat to the business sector.
These types of situations can have devastating consequences, from the loss of confidential data of the organization and its customers, to the interruption of business operations. Ultimately, the threat of cyber-attacks highlights the ongoing need for companies to take steps to implement and strengthen their cyber security and be prepared to meet the emerging challenges in today’s landscape.
The firm EY emphasized the challenges that Central America, Panama and the Dominican Republic face in the face of the increase in cyber-attacks and how to manage them. This call arose in a meeting held by the consulting firm, which addressed how cybersecurity for the future of business provides a context between technological innovation in recent years and the evolution of threats, pointing out key concepts to address the challenges and situations that go with cyber risk and threats.
Threats and vulnerabilities include limitations in detection capabilities, the implementation of non-dedicated networks for work activities and the use of default configurations or dependence on third parties.
Weaknesses include: inadequate segregation of roles and profiles, errors or omissions in the configuration of remote access tools, lack of application of security baselines in workstations and mobile devices, and in communication solutions.
Due to the increase in the frequency of cyber-attacks, Enrique Mendoza, Senior Technology Consulting Manager of the firm EY indicates that: “In a world where technological innovation goes by leaps and bounds our ability to adapt and protect ourselves against the growing cyber threats becomes crucial, especially in the business landscape”.
Finally, at the meeting the firm also addressed topics such as: trends in data analytics, and the myths and realities of Artificial Intelligence (AI) emphasizing preventive strategies and a security culture that allows organizations to not only survive but also thrive in the digital age.
