El Salvador started 2025 with growing economic indicators, stated the Minister of Economy, María Luisa Hayem. According to the official, exports increased 3% in january compared to the same month of 2024, while imports grew 15%, driven by the purchase of machinery.

“That’s another good news for our economy”, Hayem expressed this wednesday in an interview for Punto de Vista. He also noted that commercial activity has shown dynamism, reflecting confidence in the salvadoran market.
Remittances also registered an increase of 13%, which, according to the minister, represents an “engine of consumption and an engine of production” for the country. Most of these remittances come from salvadorans in the United States, contributing to the local economy.

In the investment sector, Hayem mentioned the recent inauguration of a solar energy plant of the French company Neoen and the launching of a new free trade zone project in San Vicente. He emphasized that “in El Salvador there has not been, for more than 14 years, a new construction in the free trade zone”.
He also highlighted the arrival of new investments and business expansions in the country. Companies such as Unilever, Nestlé, Telus and Bimbo have announced growth plans, the latter with an investment of US$200 million.

Regarding the attraction of foreign capital, he pointed out that there is a growing interest in El Salvador. During visits to Colombia and Spain, businessmen have expressed positive expectations about the economic development of the country.
