A. M. The deputies of the Commission of Salvadorans Abroad, Legislation and Government took a key step to modernize international trade in El Salvador. They issued a favorable opinion to ratify the United Nations Convention on the Use of Electronic Communications in International Contracts, an agreement adopted in 2005 that will facilitate the signing of electronic contracts between companies from different countries.
The convention seeks to guarantee the legal validity of electronic communications in international commercial agreements, allowing contracts concluded through e-mails, digital platforms, and other electronic means to have the same recognition as physical documents. With this measure, El Salvador aligns with global trends in digital commerce and opens the door to greater foreign investment.
During the analysis of the opinion, the deputies received representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who stressed that the ratification of this agreement will provide legal certainty to companies and facilitate cross-border trade operations.
This agreement is especially relevant for sectors such as digital commerce, logistics and the export industry, which require modern tools to close deals quickly and securely. It is also expected to reduce operating costs by eliminating bureaucratic barriers and facilitating the digitalization of foreign trade processes.
Among the most important benefits, the convention establishes that electronic communications will have the same legal validity as physical documents. It also allows companies to include specific clauses to adapt contracts to their needs, providing flexibility in trade agreements.
