A. M. El Salvador, through the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG), is proactively preparing for the impending rainy season, which is expected to affect various productive areas of the country. Deputy Minister of Agriculture Óscar Domínguez has confirmed that the state institution is taking the necessary measures to protect the agricultural sector and guarantee the nation’s food security. Anticipation and planning are key to the MAG’s strategy.
Preparation includes a comprehensive approach that combines technology with field presence. Domínguez explained that constant satellite monitoring will be carried out in production areas and preventive visits will be made to help and recommendations to ranchers and farmers. This combination of tools seeks to offer a rapid and effective response to any eventuality that may arise.
In addition to its on-the-ground actions, the Ministry has prepared more than 40 shelters strategically located in all departments, capable of sheltering farm animals and agricultural machinery. This measure underscores the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG) commitment to protecting not only crops but also producers’ assets. Work in the agricultural sector extends beyond preparing for the rains. The MAG maintains an offensive against the screwworm, administering vitamins to livestock and offering recommendations for preventing diseases and pests related to weather conditions. Despite the climate challenges, the MAG continues its planting strategy. The Central de Abastos and the Agromercados are operating tirelessly to ensure the availability of fresh food for salvadoran families. In parallel, the Centro de Desarrollo de la Pesca y la Acuicultura (Cendepesca) is visiting aquaculture stations and conducting on-site analyses, ensuring that all productive subsectors are covered during the emergency.
