The Junta de Vigilancia Electoral (JVE) granted recognition to the presiding judge of the Tribunal Supremo Electoral (TSE), Roxana Soriano, for her “Contribution to the Strengthening of Salvadoran Democracy”. The distinction represents an unprecedented event in the history of both institutions, since it is the first time that this organization has awarded recognition to a member of the TSE Collegiate Body since its creation in 1993.
According to the information released by the Tribunal Supremo Electoral, the recognition was granted by the directors of the JVE, who highlighted Soriano’s contribution and his participation in strengthening relations between the two bodies.
The distinction also constitutes recognition of the promotion of an institutional relationship based on respect, collaboration and understanding, principles that have allowed maintaining spaces for coordination and joint work between the electoral body and the Junta de Vigilancia Electoral.

The JVE is an entity linked to the surveillance of electoral processes, so its relationship with the TSE is relevant for the development of activities related to the organization and supervision of elections in the country.
Both institutions maintain a working relationship that seeks to facilitate coordination during the different stages of democratic processes, as well as strengthen surveillance and participation mechanisms within the salvadoran electoral system.
The recognition given to Soriano marks a precedent in the history of the JVE, as it is the first distinction of this type granted to a member of the Collegiate Body of Tribunal Supremo Electoral in more than three decades of existence.

With this gesture, the representatives of the Junta de Vigilancia Electoral also expressed their gratitude for the willingness to dialogue and understanding between the institutions, aspects that they consider important to maintain a cooperative relationship in the electoral field.
The TSE pointed out that this event reaffirms the importance of inter-institutional work for the development of salvadoran democracy, in a context in which coordination between organizations linked to electoral processes constitutes a fundamental element for the functioning of the democratic system.
