The agricultural areas of Atiquizaya, in the department of Ahuachapán, are increasing their profitability thanks to the Production Boost Program, promoted by the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG). This initiative prioritizes technical assistance, direct support to producers, the delivery of supplies, and specialized advice for the installation of shade houses.

One of the beneficiaries is Alexis Contreras, a producer from the Terrón Blanco canton, who states that the installation of shade houses has allowed him to maintain a consistent production of cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, and cabbage. Thanks to this, he has been able to sell his harvests at fair prices directly to the end consumer, obtaining better profit margins.
Contreras emphasizes that profitability is key to sustaining staggered production and points out that the program is comprehensive, as it provides technical support that allows for higher levels of productivity and healthier crops, benefiting the population.

Bryan Vanegas, a technician from the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG). explained that this effort also seeks to guarantee the country’s food security through a continuous supply of fruits and vegetables, especially relevant at this time of year.

Likewise, José Bermúdez, a marketing technician, noted that the Production Increase Program is strengthening ties between the agricultural sector and the Central de Abastos and AgroMercados to offer modern and suitable spaces for the sale of fruits and vegetables.
Nationwide, agriculture continues to expand thanks to the coordinated work between the government, producers, and their associations, which is allowing for more productive harvests both in protected structures and in open fields, through the implementation of good agricultural practices.
