The mayor of San Salvador Centro, Mario Durán, is leading a special cleaning plan for the holiday season through the Solid Waste Department. The plan, which runs from december 1, 2025, to january 6, 2026, aims to ensure orderly and clean festivities.

“Once again, the mayor’s office is ensuring that Christmas and New Year’s celebrations take place in an impeccable environment. A team of nearly 1,000 employees has been strategically deployed in the busiest areas. This staff performs essential tasks such as deep cleaning of streets, manual sweeping, cleaning gutters and sidewalks, installing barrel-type trash cans, and removing the generated waste”, explained Germán Muñoz, director of Desechos Sólidos.

Cleaning efforts in the capital are being intensified in key areas with high tourist traffic, such as the Historic Center’s Christmas Village, plazas in the Historic Microcenter, Jardín Centroamérica, San José Park, Plaza Universitaria, Plaza San Jerónimo Emiliani, Plaza Simón Bolívar, Plaza Salvador del Mundo, the Fuentes Beethoven, Plaza Masferrer, parque Cuscatlán, authorized fireworks sales points, and scheduled parade routes.

“For december 25th and january 1st, we will have 45 special residential collection routes. 225 employees will be responsible for removing waste from each home after the festivities”, the official said.
The Central Municipality also guarantees cleanliness at every child’s party scheduled in the communities and neighborhoods of Mejicanos, Ayutuxtepeque, Cuscatancingo, Ciudad Delgado, and San Salvador. In addition, the Servicio Especial de Limpieza Urgente (SELUR) units will reinforce garbage collection efforts throughout the municipality.
